Edwardian Dressing Up
Edwardian Dressing Up

Sewerby Hall and Gardens is very proud to offer visitors a vast array of educational, sporting and relaxing just-for-fun activities.

The planning that goes into these activities ensures that all interests, abilities and age groups are catered for and the impact on the abundant wildlife which calls the estate its home is minimal.

 Permanent Activities

Nine Hole Pitch and Putt

Do you fancy a walk with a purpose? Then try our nine hole pitch and putt golf course. Adults and children alike can have a relaxing game while surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the woodland estate on this challenging course suitable for both serious and recreational golfers.

18 Hole Putting Green

The whole family can enjoy our popular 18 hole putting green, adjacent to the gardens and outdoor games area. A friendly challenge or a chance to brush up on your putting skills? You decide.

FootGolf

Sewerby Hall and Gardens was the host for the very first FootGolf tournament held in England in September, 2012 in conjunction with the UK FootGolf Association.

Since then, this new and unique sport has gone from strength to strength and has seen the creation of local junior and senior squads at tournament level. Aimed at the casual or professional player alike, the intent is to introduce a football into a hole with the foot, in the least amount of shots possible.

The five hole miniature course is available alongside our Pitch and Putt course between April and September. Between October and March, the course reverts back to a nine hole course with no golf available (subject to weather conditions).

Orienteering

Aimed mainly at families, our Orienteering course has been designed by HALO (Humberside and Lincolnshire Orienteers) and uses various routes throughout the estate ranging in skill from a short introductory course suitable for beginners to a longer, more difficult course for the more competitive. Our Orienteering pack contains all you need to negotiate the various courses.

XPLORER

In partnership with British Orienteering, this fun activity is aimed at families with younger children. Find the colours or the animals on the plaques scattered around the estate; time yourself and compete against your friends or just take it at your own pace. For the dates on which XPLORER is available, please visit the events page.

Children’s Playground

The children’s adventure playground has a nautical theme with a boat as the central feature.

Children have their own areas with a range of equipment that challenges their strength, agility and ability.

Brass Rubbings

Scattered around the estate are brass plaques mounted on posts and fences depicting various mammals and birds. All you have to do is find the plaque relevant to the page in our booklet and then make your very own brass rubbings. The booklet is full of interesting facts about each animal. Why not see if you can find them all?

This free activity booklet is available from the Welcome Centre.

Outdoor Games Area

Situated adjacent to the 18 hole putting green, our games area contains a permanent outdoor table-tennis table, boules, hula hoops, skittles, various giant games including Jenga, Noughts and Crosses and Connect Four together with numerous picnic tables.

Nature Detectives

Don’t forget to pick up your free Nature Detective pamphlet from the Welcome Centre. Themed around the four seasons, they contain various wildlife activities you can take part in while visiting the estate.

Parkrun

Sewerby Hall and Gardens was the very first stately home in the UK to embrace this popular sporting event.

Sewerby parkrun is a FREE weekly event for runners of all standards, taking place every Saturday at 9am. It is not a race against other runners, but a 5k timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan. It offers an opportunity for the local community, male or female, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful park and get physically active into the bargain. Register in advance by 6pm on the Friday before your first parkrun.

The great thing is that you only ever need to do this once! Then just set your alarm for Saturday morning and get yourself there!

The Clock Tower Cafe offer all runners and their friends and families 25 percent discount on menu items between 9.30am and 10am. For further information, visit Sewerby Parkrun website.

“Just a quick note to thank you for a wonderful run on Saturday. I have visited a number of different runs in recent months but Sewerby will stay in the memory for a very long time both for the course, which is truly stunning, and the very warm welcome. Please pass on my thanks to all the volunteers who made this possible. I wish you every success for the future.”

Crown Green Bowls (Bridlington Bay Bowling Club)

The Bowling Green that you see today measures 42yds by 42yds with a 10” crown and was first opened in 1949.

The Bridlington Bay Bowling Club was established in 1977 by a small number of enthusiasts who negotiated with the then owners of Sewerby Hall and Gardens, the East Yorkshire Borough Council. A 99 year lease for the Green and associated club house building was created with an undertaking from the club to always cater for visitors who may wish to ‘Pay to Play’ whilst the green is open between the hours of 10am and 5pm daily providing, of course, that there isn’t a club match being played. The club also boasts a small putting green, an ideal playground for children and adults to test their skills for a nominal fee.

Since 1977 the club has grown enormously with a current tally of around 95 full and social members.  Today the club is represented in a number of league matches against other Crown Green Bowling Clubs. New members are always welcome and a membership application form can be obtained from the club Secretary, Keith Davey by calling (01262) 851829 or emailing keith.davey321@btinternet.com.
